KUSF Mourns Tragic Loss of Muni University Delegates: A Regional Sports Fraternity in Grief

The Kenya University Sports Federation (KUSF) has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of three esteemed members of the Muni University delegation. Rev. Canon Patrick Acema, Mr. Washington Opio, and Mr. Kennedy Acdril passed away while returning from the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) General Assembly held at Uganda Christian University.

This devastating incident has sent shockwaves across the East African university sports community, leaving a void in the hearts of colleagues, student-athletes, and institutional leaders who admired the trio’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, spiritual mentorship, and sports development.

Honoring Lives of Impact

In a heartfelt condolence message, KUSF President Mr. Kibet Rono paid tribute to the fallen delegates, describing them as:

“Champions of youth empowerment, spiritual guidance, and sports development… Their contributions to university sports in Uganda and across Africa will be remembered with deep respect and admiration.”

Rev. Canon Acema was known for his pastoral leadership and moral guidance within university circles, while Mr. Opiyo and Mr. Acdril were instrumental in advancing student sports programs and regional collaboration.

KUSF also extended its thoughts and prayers to the two survivors of the accident—the Sports Tutor from Soroti University and a student leader—who remain hospitalized. The federation expressed hope for their full recovery and pledged continued support to their families and institutions during this difficult time.

In a show of unity, KUSF reaffirmed its solidarity with AUUS, Muni University, Soroti University, and all affected families. The federation emphasized the importance of standing together in grief and resilience, stating:

“May the souls of our fallen comrades rest in eternal peace, and may their legacy continue to inspire unity, resilience, and purpose in our shared mission.”

This tragedy underscores the deep bonds within the African university sports ecosystem, where collaboration and shared values transcend borders.
